The former Minister of State Petroleum and leader of All Progressives Congress, APC in Bayelsa, Chief Timipre Sylva said the plans by Governor Douye Diri to initiate legal proceeding in order to prosecute him over the murder of a youth in Twon Brass during the 2023 gubernatorial election is dead on arrival.
A statement by Julius Bokoru, Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs to Chief Timipre Sylva and made available to newsmen in Yenagoa, stated that after several attempts by Diri to draw up phantom EFCC case in order to distract Sylva from pursuing his quest for justice failed, hence the desperate need to accuse Sylva as the alleged killer of George Sibo.
Bokoru noted that at the time the young man was murdered in Twon Btass Chief Timipre Sylva was in Yenagoa, adding that attempts to drag Sylva into the murder issue is born out of deep seated fear and anxiety.
He added that the moment what concerns Sylva is his quest to legally retrieve his stolen mandate and until that is achieved Diri”s Governorship remains illegitimate.
The statement reads: “The attention of H.E Chief Timipre Sylva, former Governor, former Minister of State Petroleum and leader of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa, is drawn to a statement by Governor Douye Diri, ordering the Attorney General of Bay
elsa State to initiate the prosecution of Chief Sylva over a murder in Twon-Brass during the last Guber polls.
” Chief Sylva is curious as to what limits Diri’s desperation can push him to. It is clear to all that these frantic attempts are symptomatic of a deep seated fear.
” Shortly after Diri’s failed attempt at conjuring some phantom EFCC case against Sylva to distract him from pursuing his just quest for justice. He has devised a new distraction which, of course, is dead on arrival.
” Sylva knows nothing of the murder of George Sibo, an illustrious and promising youth of the state. It is important to note that by the time the young man died Sylva was not even on the Brass Island. Chief Sylva was in Yenagoa.
” It is clear that any attempt to drag Chief Sylva into this issue is either inspired by fear and anxiety or by a thoroughly jaundiced-mindset.
” Everything imaginable has been put in Sylva’s way to distract him. After Diri’s attempt to bring up phantom EFCC issues failed. After the endless and relentless string of propaganda failed against Chief Sylva. Now this!
” This response, which at this point is forced from Chief Sylva, is painful for two reasons: how can a sitting governor assume the role of a forensic and criminal investigator, and convict Chief Sylva even before investigations commenced? How much more can a sitting governor debase the office, making such wild, frantic and baseless allegations?
” In the course of the last elections we saw strange things from Gov Douye Diri who seemed constantly edgy and ready to emotionally erupt, but this latest unwarranted combustion is a new low. An unequivocal affirmation that we have a mentally brittle individual at the helm in Bayelsa State who cannot free himself from a Post Traumatic Stress Disorder which he apparently contracted since the electoral heist of November 2023.
” Chief Sylva, concerned Bayelsans and the APC are trying everything within the law to get a stolen mandate back. Until justice is done, Diri’s Governorship remains illegitimate in the minds of every sincere Bayelsan and every sincere person of goodwill”,
